Associate Producer - Public Affairs
Located in the heart of Brooklyn's cultural district in Fort Greene, Brooklyn Community Access Television (BCAT) is Brooklyn's public access cable television program. BCAT is the media program of BRIC Arts|Media|Bklyn (BRIC), a multi-disciplinary cultural organization, dedicated to presenting visual, performing and media arts programs that are reflective of Brooklyn’s diverse communities and to providing resources and platforms to support the creative process.
BCAT provides low cost media education training in all aspects of television production for Brooklyn residents through its Center for Media Education (CME) program; operates three channels of cable television for use by the public to create and present programs of community interest (Brooklyn Free Speech TV); produces programs of interest to Brooklyn residents (Brooklyn Independent Television); and operates a community bulletin board on a fourth cable television channel (Brooklyn Bulletin Board TV). Employees often perform their duties in a mentoring capacity, consistent with BCAT’s role as an educational facility. The community services and programs provided by BCAT make a key contribution to the mission of BRIC Arts|Media|Bklyn.
BCAT is currently seeking to hire an Associate Producer, who will assist producers in the production of Brooklyn Independent Television programs. Reporting to the Senior Producer for Public Affairs, the Associate Producer will produce public affairs programming and assist in the production of programs in other departments. This position is part of the NABET-CWA collective bargaining unit at BCAT. The selected candidate will be or will become a member of NABET-CWA.
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Managing master production schedules for department programs
- Providing editorial support in the form of story ideas
- On-camera reporting and creation of packages and segments for programs
- Coordinating shoots and edits with BCAT staff, freelancers and community producers
- Editing programs using Avid Xpress Pro non-linear editing software
- Incorporating graphics elements into the program
- Directing in-studio interviews
- Planning and participating in production kick-off meetings, and on-going story meetings
- Mentoring community producers, interns and volunteers throughout the production process
- Fulfilling program dub requests
- Assisting in managing tape library in program of concentration
- Supporting BCAT training and recruiting efforts
The ideal candidate will have a BA/BS in Communications, Television or Broadcast Journalism; knowledge of Brooklyn and the people that make our borough unique; a minimum of three years of experience in television creation, including experience managing all phases of production and experience with both remote location and in-studio shoots; and the ability to lead a team with varied levels of television production skills. S/He will be a motivated self-starter; have exceptional interpersonal skills; and possess an excellent knowledge of non-linear editing systems, including Avid Xpress Pro and Final Cut Pro. Familiarity with public access rules and regulations a plus.
Salary: $31K + excellent benefits

BRIC is currently seeking to hire a Marketing & Communications Manager to join the BCAT administrative team. The Marketing & Communications Manager is responsible for implementing a strategic marketing plan to expand BCAT’s viewership and users. The Marketing & Communications Manager reports directly to the Executive Producer of BCAT and works collaboratively with other BRIC marketing and communications staff.
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Oversee online marketing including providing content for website; writing copy for weekly and monthly e-blasts;
- Write copy and oversee the production of all printed materials, including quarterly program guides, education brochures, flyers, and weekly ads; take photographs to incorporate into written material;
- Write and distribute press releases and advertisements; develop and maintain relationships with the media;
- Write copy for BCAT web pages on the BRIC website and collaborate with web master to keep the site up-to-date
- Write marketing copy for BCAT TV programs and sponsorship material
- Implement a marketing plan for community outreach; attend community meetings;
- Work closely with other BRIC staff on agency-wide marketing strategy
- Plan community events and special events; coordinate and attend street fairs
This is a full-time position. Candidates must have a BA degree (communications or English major preferred), excellent writing, editing, oral communications; and computer skills including familiarity with Microsoft office suite. Experience with Adobe photoshop, Quark and Illustrator is also desirable. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 3 years experience in marketing, be a motivated self-starter; have exceptional organizational and interpersonal skills; and possess an excellent knowledge of the printing and design industries. Knowledge of HTML a plus.
Salary: Low $40s + excellent benefits

Freelance Master Control Technician:
Job Description: This person is responsible for quality control of four channels; loading programs for playback; creating tape run times; troubleshooting; and maintaining the playback transmission log. Freelancers are responsible for weekend, sick days and vacation coverage. Availability to work flexible hours essential. This is an hourly position: $12/hour. Operations Manager, Celebrate Brooklyn
A program of BRIC Arts | Media | Brklyn, Celebrate Brooklyn! is the borough’s premiere summer-long performing arts festival presenting a culturally-diverse season of music, dance, spoken word and film in a large outdoor venue. The Festival has a reputation for excellence that attracts 250,000 attendees from across NYC to the Festival’s home at the Prospect Park Bandshell each summer. BRIC Arts | Media | Brklyn is a multi-disciplinary arts and media non-profit, dedicated to presenting visual, performing and media arts programs that are reflective of Brooklyn’s diverse communities and to providing resources and platforms to support the creative process.
The Operations Manager reports to BRIC’s Director of Performing Arts Programs/Celebrate Brooklyn Executive Producer. Responsibilities include working with the Director to plan and implement all operations for the Celebrate Brooklyn Performing Arts Festival.
Specific responsibilities include:
Ongoing/Pre-Season:
- Develop and update seasonal site staffing plan and budget, including org chart and job descriptions for production, maintenance, site, security and house staffs; and volunteers and interns.
- Post all available seasonal site positions, log applications, schedule interviews and assist Director and Production Manager in the selection of qualified candidates.
- Maintain existing and develop new relationships with universities for placement of production and administrative interns.
- Develop, maintain and update an electronic “Production Manual” including photographs, drawings, site and transportation plans, equipment inventories and manuals, equipment rental lists, and vendors.
- Assist the Director and Production Manager in completing off-season/pre-season repairs, maintenance, and capital equipment purchases, and soliciting multiple bids for same.
- Assist Director with communications with agencies having jurisdiction and/or oversight of the Bandshell including NYC Parks Dept, NYPD and EMS.
- Assist the Director and Counsel, with a comprehensive review and update of performer engagement contracts, outside promoter contracts, addendums, releases, filming, recording and other engagement related agreements.
- Assist with operations of special events including pre-season “season sneak preview” Friends campaign kick-off; off-season cultivation events, and other special events.
- Assist Director with the development of operational plans and staffing for future performing arts programs.
Pre-Season/In-Season:
- Serve as day-to-day contact with performers and their representatives to ensure a smooth and successful engagement for each performer.
- Make air and ground travel arrangements and hotel bookings as per engagement contract requirements.
- Collect performer’s guest and lists and distribute to appropriate check-in staff.
- Prepare a detailed draft “Event Summary” for each performance with notes on production schedule, artists’ requirements, air travel, ground travel, hotel arrangements, hospitality, on-site special events, sponsorship requirements and other details pertaining to each performance.
- Assist the Director with administration and implementation of “benefit concerts” contracted with outside commercial promoters.
- Assist the Director with oversight of day-to-day operations of seasonal and occasional concessionaires and vendors.
- Create and maintain a comprehensive site signage plan and provide production staff seasonal and occasional signage for installation.
- Work with Director and seasonal Administrative Assistant to ensure timely execution of engagement contracts and to maintain and utilize database systems for tracking contracts, payments and performer contacts.
- Create, maintain and implement a comprehensive on-site credentials plan for seasonal staff, artists and other working personnel.
- Assist seasonal production staff as appropriate.
- Coordinate with Sponsorship Manager regarding on-site implementation and fulfillment as appropriate.
- General administrative support for ongoing operations.
Schedule
This is full-time exempt position that requires work at all summer Celebrate Brooklyn performances on nights and weekends in addition to a regular office schedule. Generally days off are Sunday and Monday in summer, Saturday and Sunday during the rest of the year.
Qualifications
This position requires a bachelors degree and 2-4 years experience in artist relations, performing arts venues and/or outdoor summer performance festivals. Excellent communications skills and interpersonal skills are a must.
